Ronnie Radke is fighting back against paying $40,700 in legal fees after losing his defamation case against Anthony Fantano.
Ronnie Radke is fighting back against a court order that requires him to cover Anthony Fantano’s legal fees following his failed defamation lawsuit.
The Falling In Reverse frontman initially filed the suit over Fantano’s YouTube video titled ‘This Guy Sucks.’ The case was already marred by missteps, with Radke first suing the wrong Anthony Fantano before correcting the filing.
Despite that, the court ultimately dismissed his claims, siding with Fantano under California’s anti-SLAPP statute, which protects against lawsuits meant to silence free speech.
As part of the ruling, Ronnie Radke was ordered to pay $40,700 to cover Fantano’s defense attorney fees. According to reporting by Stereogum, Radke formally objected to the amount on August 29, calling the figure excessive. His filing argued that “the total fees and costs sought by Fantano are excessive, grossly disproportionate to the tasks performed, and Fantano has failed to meet his burden of demonstrating the reasonableness of the fee award sought.”
The objection further claimed that the number of hours billed by Fantano’s legal team reflected a case much closer to trial, rather than one dismissed early in the process. Ronnie Radke’s attorneys also argued that Fantano had not submitted a copy of his retainer agreement with his lawyers at Cohen and Wolf, making it “impossible to verify the amounts” listed in their affidavit.
Fantano, widely known as “The Internet’s Busiest Music Nerd,” has addressed the ongoing fallout in a new response video posted to his channel, titled ‘He Sued Me (I WON)’. The YouTuber, who has covered countless artists and albums with both praise and criticism, maintains that the court’s decision was correct and that Radke’s latest challenge is unlikely to change the outcome.
It looks like Ronnie Radke and Anthony Fantano’s beef is well and truly still ongoing – although whether it ends up in court again is anyone’s guess right now.
