Hayley Williams has confirmed Paramore are still together, but on a break while she focuses on her solo work.
Hayley Williams has confirmed Paramore are not broken up, despite ongoing speculation.
The band has long had a turbulent history with frequent lineup changes and lengthy pauses between albums, though things steadied with the release of This Is Why in February 2023. That record was the first in Paramore’s career to feature the same members as the previous album.
Still, with the arrival of Williams’ new solo record Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party, fans began questioning Paramore’s future once again. Lyrics on the project fuelled speculation about a split from guitarist Taylor York, who she publicly confirmed she was dating in 2022. Adding to the chatter, Williams started selling shirts reading “Hayley Williams Is My Favourite Band.”
Neither Williams nor York has commented on the status of their relationship, but in a new interview with The Face, Williams addressed where things stand with Paramore. “Do we ever know where we’re at?! We always take huge breaks. In order for us to metabolise shit that we go through as people, it takes the amount of time it takes between albums.”
She made it clear that the group remains intact, praising her bandmates: “There are no better musicians in the world than Zac [Farro] and Taylor. There are no better performers than [the] Parafour. It’s just magic, man. I feel such a vindication in knowing that nobody can discount Paramore.”
Williams also revealed that Paramore had been writing during their time opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour and even recorded demos, though she needed space to focus on what became Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party.
Williams previewed 17 songs online under the surprise project Ego, later releasing them as individual singles before packaging them as Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party with an additional track, ‘Parachute.’
