California pop-punk lifers Zebrahead are heading back to Australia this October, bringing nearly three decades of noise, beer soaked fun and crossover energy with them. The band last hit our shores seven years ago, and fans won’t have to wait any longer, the crew are locked in for a five date run across Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
We caught up with bassist Ben Osmundson to talk life on the road, longevity, and what it means to still be charging hard in 2025. Since forming in 1996, Zebrahead have survived the shifting tides of pop-punk and built a reputation for unpredictable live shows that connect with crowds from Warped Tour kids to metal audiences.
In our chat, Osmundson opened up about the quirks of touring Australia, from shoeys to backstage antics and gave insight into how the band has kept pushing forward without burning out. The conversation also touched on their outsider identity, even after sharing stages with Blink-182, Green Day and Sum 41. Rather than claiming a seat at the so-called “royalty” table of pop-punk, Zebrahead have always leaned into their own lane, heavier, messier, and never quite fitting the mould.
The band’s enduring fanbase proves that formula works, new listeners are discovering Zebrahead with fresh ears, while longtime followers still chant along like it’s 2000 all over again. Their cross genre appeal has even seen them welcomed into heavier spaces, proving that good energy trumps strict genre labels.
And yes, the band aren’t above the uniquely Australian rite of passage that is the shoey.
