Ozzy Osbourne’s family revealed that the late singer was secretly hospitalised with an undisclosed illness two weeks before his final performance at the Back to the Beginning concert in July.

The Osbourne family have revealed in their first episode of their podcast, The Osbournes, since Ozzy Osbourne’s death, that the late singer had secretly been hospitalised two weeks before the massive Back To The Beginning concert.

The podcast would feature the late singer’s wife, Sharon, and their children, Jack and Kelly, who would share memories of Osbourne and express gratitude to fans for their support. They’d go on to discuss the Black Sabbath singer’s final days, his resounding determination to perform his final show in Birmingham, and their feud with former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters.

Before Osbourne passed on July 22 at the age of 76, the late singer was battling an array of ailments, which put into doubt whether the Prince of Darkness would be able to perform at the Back to the Beginning. But, against all odds, the singer managed to pull through and would pass only two weeks following the event.

While the family don’t disclose any specifics about what put Osbourne in the hospital, they would admit they were concerned details would leak ahead of his final performance.

“I was terrified people were going to find out,” admitted Sharon on the podcast, revealing they had given specific instructions to hospital staff and security to ensure no one could leak Ozzy was hospitalised.

Sharon would admit someone did come to the hospital looking for a “John Osbourne” (Ozzy’s real name), claiming to be his brother. At the time, Sharon speculated that this was a reporter, because not even Ozzy’s real brothers knew he was in the hospital. As it would turn out, the man was the brother of a different John Osbourne, also staying in the same hospital.

“Daddy was hysterical laughing,” Sharon would share of Osbourne’s reaction to learning of the confusion.

The family would also go on to say that while Osbourne was no stranger to medical issues, the last seven months of his life were especially tough on them and the singer. In December 2024, the singer fell and fractured another vertebrae and while in the hospital, contracted pneumonia.

While undergoing surgery to address spinal pain, Osbourne would again contract pneumonia as well as sepsis. Other ailments included blood clots, the beginnings of emphysema, a damaged spine, Parkinson’s, a collapsed lung, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart problems.

Osbourne’s battle with sepsis was incredibly tough on the singer, and Sharon had doubted if her husband would survive the treatment due to the antibiotic treatment it required. “It was draining every ounch of strength he had, and it was in March that we thought we were going to lose him,” she said.

This also led to the family discussing cancelling the Back to the Beginning concert; however, Osbourne was steadfast in going ahead with the concert, no matter what.

“The human spirit is stronger than anything, and he was so determined to go do his show,” Sharon would say. “He wasn’t going to give up on it.”

“He didn’t want to go out not doing it, and it was the best medicine for him,” said Jack.
