Thornhill Wins Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at ARIA Awards 2025

Thornhill have taken home the Best Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Album award at the 2025 ARIA Awards tonight for their album BODIES.

Thornhill have taken home Australia’s biggest metal award of the year, winning Best Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Album at the 39th Annual ARIA Awards for their album BODIES.

The group would win the award over fellow nominees Amity Affliction, Civic, Press Club and Red Hook. This was the only ARIA award the band were up for on the night.

The award would be announced via social media before the big event (as it normally goes with metal awards at most industry music events, sadly).

The Melbourne metal group has had their biggest year yet, releasing their third studio album back in April to critical acclaim.

In a statement, the band described the album as one that “Thrives on spontaneity and freedom, foregoing rigid concepts in favour of pure, in-your-face authenticity. It’s less about delivering a carefully constructed narrative and more about creating a visceral, open-ended experience,” they said.

BODIES serves as a sonic moodboard – a collection of feelings and vibes – intentionally left open to interpretation. It has an upbeat and almost celebratory, party energy at times, but also retains all the emotion and intensity Thornhill are known for, making it our heaviest and most explosive work to date.”

The group would also join Sleep Token for their Even In Arcadia US arena headline tour, which wrapped just in October. Before that, the band had just supported French metalcore group Landmvrks.

Thornhill are set to kick off their Australian Headline Tour in February, 2026 kicking things off in Brisbane before hitting Sydney, Perth and Adelaide, and closing on Friday 27 February in Melbourne. Joining the band is Amira Elfeky from the US, Japanese metal group Paledusk and fellow heavy metal Melbourne outfit Heavensgate.

If the award put them on your radar and you’d like to check them out live, you can grab tickets from Destroy All Lines’ website here.
