Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Wins Game Of The Year At The Game Awards

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has had an almost clean sweep at The Game Awards 2025, winning Game Of The Year, Best Narrative, and plenty more.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has taken out the Game Of The Year at The Game Awards – alongside a whole heap of other awards in what was almost a clean sweep across the categories they were nominated for.

Announced by Team Asobi’s studio head Nicolas Doucet (the team behind last year’s winner Astrobot), Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was up against some pretty hefty competition for the main category of the night. The other nominees include: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hades II, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

The title also picked up the following wins at The Game Awards tonight: Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score And Music, Best Performance (for Jennifer English), Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, AND Best RPG. The only category they didn’t win in that they had a nomination for was Players’ Voice, which was taken out by Wuthering Waves.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 released in April this year to critical and fan acclaim for its in-depth, emotional story, gorgeous art direction, and score.

While accepting the award, Sandfall Interactive CEO and Creative Director Guillaume Broche thanked the team, as well as the “unsung heroes” – the players who made YouTube tutorials on how to play and win the game. He also noted the French outfits and berets were “supposed to be a joke,” which ironically got a whole lot more airtime than the team likely expected thanks to them absolutely cleaning up The Game Awards.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 joins a long list of acclaimed titles that have won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards, including last year’s Astrobot, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Elden Ring.

While The Game Awards were of course, in part about the awards for titles released throughout the year, a big chunk of the event was dedicated to a whole heap of trailers and reveals – including Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Divinity, and plenty more.
