Jane’s Addiction Have ‘Resolved Their Differences’ Following Onstage Incident With Perry Farrell

Jane’s Addiction have addressed the onstage brawl that ended the band, confirming differences with Perry Farrell have been “resolved.”

Jane’s Addiction have issued a joint statement confirming that longstanding tensions with Perry Farrell and the rest of the band have been formally resolved, more than a year after a public onstage altercation brought the band to an abrupt halt. While the group stopped short of announcing a return, their statement suggests that they’re keen to protect the legacy of the band and move past the (very) messy altercation as the former members go in their own seperate musical directions.

The drama dates back to September 14, 2024, during a show in Boston, when vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro became involved in a physical confrontation on stage. The incident led to the immediate cancellation of the band’s remaining tour dates and effectively ended Jane’s Addiction as an active unit. In the aftermath, public statements were made about Farrell’s mental health, and tensions escalated further when Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins filed a $10 million lawsuit against Farrell. Farrell later responded with legal action of his own.

Earlier this year, Navarro told Guitar Player there was “no chance” of the band performing again. He said the incident caused everything to come to a “screeching halt,” suggesting that it “forever destroyed the band’s life.”

In their newly released statement posted to social media, Jane’s Addiction acknowledged missteps made in the wake of the Boston show and clarified how the decision to cancel the tour unfolded. “”We would like to clarify the events surrounding the cancellation of the tour after the show in Boston in September 2024. After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret.”

“Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together. We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together. You, the fans, are our lifeblood, and we will always appreciate you.”

Farrell also shared a personal apology addressing both the incident and its wider impact. “To everyone in Boston, and around the world. I’d like to address what happened on stage last year. I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.”

He continued by underlining the importance of the band to his life and career. “Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down.”

“In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.”

At present, there is no indication that Jane’s Addiction will continue as a band, but at the very least the drama (and lawsuits) appear to have come to a peaceful end.
