Puscifer have released their new single ‘ImpetuoUs’ alongside an animated visualiser, just one month out from the launch of their next album Normal Isn’t.
With just a month to go before the release of their next full-length record, Puscifer have revealed a new track titled ‘ImpetuoUs’. The song arrives as the latest preview of the band’s upcoming album Normal Isn’t, which is scheduled for release on February 6.
‘ImpetuoUs’ continues the rollout that has included the singles ‘Self Evident’ and ‘Pendulum’. The track leans into a hypnotic, rhythmic pulse and includes the line “Don’t lead, move or follow / Let’s just dance’, hinting at themes of instinct, movement, and rejection of rigid structures.
Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan spoke about the song’s open-ended nature and how listeners may interpret it differently from its creators. “I’m looking forward to hearing where this song takes people,” Keenan said. “As the writers, we forget that in a way, we are carpenters and that we’ve been with this song since it was a pile of lumber. Our Perspective may differ from the final occupant of this space we’ve constructed. Shelter, Bridge or Gallows, Coffin? Curious to find out.”
The release of ‘ImpetuoUs’ is accompanied by an animated visualiser, expanding the track’s atmosphere and adding a visual layer to its almost unsettling tone. The visualiser, drawn by Marlin Shoop and animated by Raul Araujo, is comic-inspired and sees Keenan as the “reluctant host” of the Tales from the Pusciverse ‘prodcast’. He’s joined by his very goth guest Bellendia Black (Keenan’s new persona first seen in Puscifer’s ‘Pendulum’), whose name he can’t quite get the hang of saying – is it Bell End?…Bellend?…Bellend Dio?

Keenan has previously spoken about the broader themes behind Puscifer’s Normal Isn’t, framing the album as a response to the current state of the world. “Normal Isn’t reflects this time we are living in,” he explained. “As storytellers and artists, our job is to observe, interpret and report. We take in our environment and share what we see, and what we see around us does not appear normal. Not by a long shot.”
