The Used Eye ‘Under Pressure’ Revival With My Chemical Romance

The Used and My Chemical Romance are circling each other again, and this time it’s not just nostalgia driving the moment.

Bert McCracken has confirmed the band wants to bring back ‘Under Pressure’ when the two acts reunite later this year (via tone deaf).

The long awaited link up is locked for October at the Hollywood Bowl, marking the first time the bands have shared a stage in years, for fans who came up in that mid 2000s wave, it’s more than just another show, it’s unfinished business.

Speaking on Rolling Stone’s Uncut podcast, McCracken made it clear this reunion has been brewing for a while:

“We’ve seen each other a few times and been in touch, and things are great,” he said.

‘A long time coming’

There’s a sense this isn’t some random one off, McCracken described the upcoming show as “a long time coming”, hinting that both camps have quietly reconnected behind the scenes.

And if things go their way, it won’t stop at just sharing a stage.

“I’m sure that we’re going to rehearse with them and hopefully do ‘Under Pressure,’” McCracken revealed. “Putting it on them! We’re ready.”

That track carries weight, back in 2005, the two bands teamed up for a cover of Queen and David Bowie’s ‘Under Pressure’ as part of a charity release following the South Asian tsunami. It’s one of those moments that sits deep in the DNA of that era.

McCracken knows it too:

“How could we not play Under Pressure together, though?” he added. “It would be awful [not to].”

More than just one show?

Right now, only the Hollywood Bowl date is confirmed, but McCracken isn’t shutting the door on more.

He’s made it clear The Used are open to extending the reunion if My Chemical Romance are on board, which raises the obvious question, is this a one night throwback, or the start of something bigger?

Fresh off a Sydney high

The timing lines up with The Used riding a strong return to Australian stages, the band just ticked off their first ever Sydney Opera House performance, leaning into a stripped back but still emotionally charged set.

Dressed in all white, they tore through tracks like ‘The Taste of Ink’, ‘Buried Myself Alive’, and ‘Blue and Yellow’, alongside deeper cuts and reworked arrangements.

“I can’t believe they let us play here!” McCracken told the packed out room.

If that show proved anything, it’s that The Used aren’t stuck in the past, when it comes to ‘Under Pressure’ though, some moments are worth dragging back into the light.
