German progressive death metal Obscura unit have released a new video for ‘The Sun Eater’ ahead of their return to Australia as part of the stacked Shred Fest 2026 lineup.
‘The Sun Eater’ is exactly what you’d expect from Obscura at this point, hyper-precise riffing, fluid tempo shifts, and that cold, clinical edge they’ve built their reputation on.
The video (below), handled by longtime collaborator Mirko Witzki, keeps it sharp and performance driven, matching the band’s mechanical tightness without overloading it with distractions, it’s less about spectacle, more about showcasing just how locked in they are.

Shred Fest is coming for Australia
The bigger play here is Shred Fest 2026, which is shaping up as one of the more niche but deadly tours hitting Australia this year, if you’re into technical death metal, this is basically mandatory.
Obscura will be joined by US outfit Fallujah, bringing their atmospheric, progressive spin on the genre, together, it’s a lineup built for players and diehards, not casual listeners.

The bigger picture
Obscura have been here before, multiple Australian runs, a loyal crowd, and a reputation for delivering live without slipping, this tour is about doubling down on a scene that thrives in smaller rooms, where precision actually matters and every missed note gets noticed.
‘The Sun Eater’ feels like a reminder of that, just technical death metal pushed to its limits with no gimmicks and with Shred Fest landing this September, it’s about to get loud again.
