Brisbane’s Sunbleached are leaning further into their emotional instincts with new single Slow Burn, an immersive alt-rock release that turns relationship uncertainty into something loud, addictive and impossible to ignore.
Out now through Community Music, the track arrives alongside a new video and continues the band’s run of emotionally charged releases that blur the line between vulnerability and catharsis.
Slow Burn doesn’t ease its way in, the song launches with an immediate surge of energy before settling into the atmospheric mix of alt-rock and emo that Sunbleached have steadily made their own. Underneath the soaring instrumentation sits a story that feels instantly familiar, the strange intensity that exists before a relationship becomes official.

The meaning behind the music
It’s about being emotionally invested without defining what’s happening, constant messages, late night conversations and an unspoken understanding that somehow feels more serious than labels.
Frontman Josh Baker says the song came directly from that feeling (per press release):
“The line ‘crack myself in two for you’ came from feeling split between real life and whatever version of myself existed inside a phone talking to somebody all the time. I wrote it from that feeling of being completely wrapped up in someone while still existing in this strange in-between space where nobody really knows what’s going on except the two people in it.”
Produced by Fletcher Matthews, known for work with Trophy Eyes, Dear Seattle and Secret World, the single highlights a more refined and confident version of the band’s songwriting while keeping the emotional urgency intact.
It also marks another chapter in Sunbleached’s evolution following recent singles Rip and Stain, both of which helped bridge the gap from their 2024 EP I Crawled Into The Hole and further expand on the foundation built by their 2023 debut Delicate Places We Hide.
After steadily growing through festival appearances, major support slots and a reputation for heartfelt songwriting, Slow Burn feels like another strong step forward for one of Australia’s most compelling alternative acts.
