Liam Gallagher Declares ‘Wonderwall’ “Biblical” As Streams Surge Ahead Of England’s World Cup Clash

Oasis classic Wonderwall is having another major moment, and Liam Gallagher couldn’t be happier about it.

Ahead of England’s World Cup group stage match against Ghana, Spotify has revealed a huge resurgence in listening for the iconic Oasis 1995 single, with UK streams climbing more than 50 per cent following England’s win over Croatia last week (per NME).

The spike appears to have been fuelled by one of the tournament’s standout scenes so far: thousands of England supporters belting out Wonderwall after the final whistle while players stood soaking up the atmosphere.

Footage from the celebrations quickly spread online, showing stars including Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon singing along with fans in a moment that’s already becoming one of England’s defining World Cup memories.

Speaking to The Sun, Noel Gallagher threw his support behind the growing movement to unofficially crown Wonderwall as England’s tournament anthem.

“‘Wonderwall’ belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the players.”

He added:

“Best of luck to everyone who’s made the trip out there.”

Spotify later confirmed the scale of the song’s revival, sharing data that showed a sharp increase in UK streams despite the track already maintaining enormous long-term popularity.

According to the platform:

“Ahead of England’s upcoming clash against Ghana, fresh data from Spotify reveals that ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis has emerged as the country’s unofficial tournament anthem.”

The statement continued:

“Spotify can reveal that the 1995 classic has experienced a resurgence, with a spike in listening of 50% in the UK – a huge lift considering the existing streams and fanbase for such an iconic and enduring song.”

Liam Gallagher responded in exactly the way fans would expect.

Posting on X, he wrote:

“And rightly so it’s a fucking classic and I sound BIBLICAL on it.”

England midfielder Declan Rice also reflected on the now-viral singalong.

“On the pitch after the game and we were just connecting with the fans, and they were singing. That was special.”

With England chasing another World Cup statement against Ghana (at time of article, it’s a zero all draw), Wonderwall may already have secured its place as the soundtrack of the campaign.
