After weeks of bizarre videos and social media teases, Queens of the Stone Age‘s grand plan has been revealed: They’re releasing their ninth album, Perfecth, in just nine weeks’ time.
The follow-up to 2023’s In Times New Roman… is slated for release on Friday, October 30 via Matador Records. The band made the announcement in another comedic video, in which frontman Josh Homme visits a dog rescue and ends up with a deformed dog named Big Chongus.
The band have also shared the album’s second single, a groove-oriented six-minute track entitled ‘Insignificant Other’. Both can be checked out below.
In a press statement, Homme explains that the word Perfecth was one that he coined himself. “Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth’,” Homme said. “That title is funny when you’re in a group, but it ain’t so funny when you’re alone.”
Speaking about ‘Insignificant Other’, meanwhile, Homme noted that the song was “a song about distance”. “[It’s] about how someone can be your entire world, only to simply vanish,” he said. “[It’s also] about the strange vertigo of being on the receiving end of that.”
The ninth QOTSA album is “from a different world”
Perfecth was co-produced by Homme with the band’s longtime bassist Michael Schuman (AKA Mikey Shoes). This marks the first time they have produced a Queens of the Stone Age album as a duo, with the entire band having collectively produced In Times New Roman… as well as 2013’s …Like Clockwork.
Its official announcement follows the release of its lead single, ‘Easy Street’, which the band began playing live last year and originally teased its studio version back in July. It was officially released later that month.

“Every song sounds like it’s from a different world,” Homme said in a statement regarding the new album. “That’s on purpose, because it’s trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.”
Queens of the Stone Age return to Australia in December
Australian and New Zealand audiences will be among the first to hear material from Perfecth live for the first time since its release, as the band are slated for their first solo headlining arena tour this December. They will be joined by Primus as the tour’s main support, with Melbourne’s Tropical Fuck Storm serving as the opener. It marks QOTSA’s first tour of Australia in almost three years, as well as Primus’ first Australian shows in over eight.
