Will Forte has worked with plenty of formidable characters across his comedy career, but after going head to head with John Cena in Coyote vs. Acme, he knows exactly whose side he wants to be on.
Speaking exclusively with us ahead of the film’s Australian cinema release, Forte had nothing but praise for his co star, who plays slick ACME lawyer Buddy Crane opposite Forte’s Kevin Avery.
“He is so talented,” Forte tells us. “I mean, I knew that he was really good at comedy just from watching Peacemaker.”
Forte had never worked with Cena before Coyote vs. Acme, but says the experience exceeded his expectations.
“He’s got these huge long chunks of dialog and just nails it every time. And he’s a great improviser, and he’s just super funny and a nice guy too. Just only super high positive things to say about him.”
Will Forte Interview
A courtroom battle for the ages
The pair’s courtroom battle sits at the centre of Coyote vs. Acme, which takes decades of Wile E. Coyote being blown up, flattened and otherwise betrayed by questionable ACME products and finally gives him the chance to do something about it.
He hires Forte’s down on his luck lawyer Kevin Avery to take the company to court, putting Avery opposite Cena’s corporate counsel.
When we asked Forte which of the two would actually win in court, however, there was no hesitation.
“Oh, for sure, John Cena,” he says.

“John Cena, he is incredibly smart. He’s he’s just he’s awesome. That guy, I I want to be on his team for everything. He’s he’s you know he’s he’s brains and brawn. He’s kind of the whole package, so so yeah, I’d be happy to be on his team for anything. But he’s my captain.”
In our full video interview (above), Forte also gets into the similarities between comedy and Wile E. Coyote’s relentless persistence, acting opposite a life sized Coyote puppet and whether MacGruber can be trusted with his life.
Coyote vs. Acme is in Australian cinemas now.
