‘Retributioner’ introduces the band’s fourth album, with Brian Wille making the case for metalcore that doesn’t need to be “a walking breakdown”.
Currents have signed to Rise Records and announced Our Fates Lie In Tandem. Their fourth studio album arrives on 12 February 2027.
The Connecticut metalcore band launched the announcement on 30 October with ‘Retributioner’, the first single from the 11-track record. Rise’s official listing confirms the release date and tracklist.
It will be their first full-length since 2023’s The Death We Seek. Fans have had plenty to get through between albums, though.
Currents released the All That Follows EP in 2025, followed by this September’s Worlds Away. The latter stripped back five songs from The Way It Ends and The Death We Seek. Both arrived through SharpTone Records.
That willingness to pull their songs apart gives some context to vocalist Brian Wille’s approach to the new album. In the announcement carried by Kerrang!, he described a record encompassing social commentary, heartbreak and shifts in intensity.
“We agreed a track doesn’t need to be ‘a walking breakdown’ in order to make an impact,” Wille said.
Making The Heaviness Count
The band had been testing different approaches before the label move. Discussing All That Follows, Wille described greater experimentation and collaboration within the group.
On Worlds Away, they revisited songs after years of playing them live. Those experiences then informed their return to the studio.
‘Retributioner’ turns its attention outward. In the band’s statement published by Blabbermouth, they described a culture that rewards people for abandoning their principles. The single challenges that pressure to get ahead by cutting others down.
Guitarist Chris Wiseman produced Our Fates Lie In Tandem. Ricky Armellino contributed additional production, while Jon Dolese handled mixing. The band described its creation as a demanding process spanning several years.
The Rise debut now brings that work into focus. Our Fates Lie In Tandem is available to pre-order, with ‘Retributioner’ offering the first look at where Currents are taking it.
