After nearly disappearing into studio limbo, ‘Coyote vs Acme’ has clawed its way back into the spotlight.
The first official trailer has landed for Coyote vs Acme, confirming the long shelved Looney Tunes hybrid will hit Australian cinemas September 17th, for a film Warner Bros. reportedly tried to bury, this one’s already carrying more baggage than your average cartoon comeback.
The film they tried to kill
Directed by Dave Green and starring John Cena, Will Forte, and Lana Condor, ‘Coyote vs Acme’ flips the classic Road Runner setup on its head., this time, Wile E. Coyote isn’t chasing, he’s suing.
After years of ACME gadgets blowing up in his face, the desert’s most persistent underdog finally snaps and drags the company into court, what follows is less slapstick chase, more legal warzone.
Forte plays struggling lawyer Kevin Avery, who sees the case as his last shot at redemption, Cena steps in as Buddy Crane, a heavyweight attorney representing ACME and standing directly in the way.
‘Coyote vs Acme’ trailer
Chaos meets courtroom
The premise sounds ridiculous on paper, bu that’s the point. The film leans into a live action and animation mix, packing in the same chaotic energy Looney Tunes built its name on, just reframed through a courtroom lens. Expect escalating gags, rivalry, and the kind of visual madness that doesn’t play by real-world rules, it’s a gamble, but it’s also one that feels oddly overdue.
From tax write off to second life
The real story sits behind the scenes, ‘Coyote vs Acme’ was completed back in 2023, then abruptly shelved by Warner Bros. as part of a tax write off move, despite strong test screenings, the studio pulled the plug. Fans weren’t having it and neither were filmmakers.
The backlash was loud, sustained, and hard to ignore, in 2025 Ketchup Entertainment stepped in, acquiring worldwide rights and dragging the film back from the brink, the reaction online was immediate, turning what could’ve been a forgotten project into a bit of a cult cause.
Now it actually hits cinemas
With a US release locked for late August and the trailer now out in the wild, ‘Coyote vs Acme’ finally looks real, after all the noise, the question now is simple. Does it land, or does it blow up like another ACME device?
Either way, Wile E. finally gets his day in court and I can’t wait.
