Justin Long Is Fixing To Get Fed On In The Coyotes Trailer

Kate Bosworth is also on the menu in this fun-looking “when animals” attack horror/comedy.

I’m a sucker for a good animal attack movie. They don’t even have to be abnormally large, ala Jaws or Alligator. Abnormally smart, though? That’s intriguing. And it seems Justin Long and Kate Bosworth are up against some abnormally smart critters in Coyotes, and those mutts are hungry for more than roadrunner.

Coyotes Trailer

What’s the plot?

If there are any publicists out there reading this, please enjoy this perfect example of a punchy, informative synopsis that doesn’t treat story details like nuclear secrets. Top marks all around.

After a Santa Ana windstorm knocks out power in the Hollywood Hills and crushes the family SUV, the
Stewarts — Scott, Liv, and their precocious daughter, Chloe — are stranded in their hillside home with no
cell service, no escape route, and just enough Spam to start a riot
.

But the real problem? Coyotes. Not the scrappy, skittish kind that dig through your garbage and steal your cat — but smart, organized, murder-flavored coyotes. Led by a scar-faced alpha with serious beef, the coyote pack starts picking off neighbors like it’s happy hour at an all-you-can-eat casino buffet.

As wildfires rage on one side and a bloodthirsty canine death cult circles the other, the Stewarts — armed
with nothing but a flashlight, an old iPad, and some questionable decision-making skills — must band
together and transform from cozy suburbanites into blood-smeared survivalists.

Coyotes is a savage, satirical survival thriller where nature bites back — and this time, it brought friends. Welcome to the apex of the food chain. It’s going badly.

A little long? Look, maybe – there’s a sweet spot between log line and long that they’ve just missed. Still, you have to admire the craft.

Who’s in it?

  • Justin Long (Barbarian) is Scott.
  • Kate Bosworth is Liv, his wife.
  • Mila Harris is Chloe, their kid.
  • Norbert Leo Butz (A Complete Unknown) is Trip.
  • Brittany Allen is Jules, and apparently she scored the whole thing, too.
  • And a bunch of CGI coyotes are the real stars here.

This one comes to us from director Colin Minihan (Grave Encounters), with Nick Simon and Tad Daggerhart on scripting duties.

When’s it out?

We’re looking at an October 3 theatrical release in North America, so expect Coyotes to hit locally around the same time. Theatrical or streaming? Who can say? But somebody will snap it up.

What’s the vibe?

Justin Long gave pretty good horror in Barbarian and Tusk, and the prospect of a couple of hours spent watching wild dogs tear apart the privileged holds no small appeal. In lieu of a live show, I guess we’ll take the movie.
