Iron Maiden Legacy Hits WWE As Lizzy Rain Gears Up For NXT Debut

Share

Iron Maiden’s influence is about to spill out of the speakers and into the ring.

Lizzy Rain, niece of late Maiden drummer Clive Burr, is set to make her WWE debut next week, bringing a heavy metal edge to the company’s NXT brand, the 28 year old wrestler will step into the spotlight on April 28th, marking her first appearance in WWE’s developmental system, the proving ground before Raw and SmackDown (per Loudwire).

‘Too loud, too gritty’

Rain isn’t easing into it quietly, in a teaser clip announcing her debut, she leaned fully into the persona she’s been building since stepping into wrestling back in 2021.

‘They said I was too loud, too gritty, too unapologetic. But I will never apologize for who I am, and that is Lizzy Rain and heavy metal, baby!’ she declared.

‘The stage is set next week for my NXT debut, and the world is about to find out that Lizzy Rain and heavy metal will never, ever, never, ever die!’

The Maiden connection

Rain performs under the nickname ‘the Maiden of Metal’, a nod to her uncle Clive Burr, who played with Iron Maiden during their formative years from 1979 to 1982.

Burr’s drumming powered the band’s early run, including ‘Iron Maiden’, ‘Killers’, and ‘The Number of the Beast’. After leaving the band, he moved through projects like Alcatrazz and Gogmagog before being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the ‘90s, he sadly passed away in 2013 at age 57.

Rain has said she wasn’t especially close with Burr, but his legacy still cut deep into her identity.

Built on loud influences

Speaking previously, she explained how that connection shaped her approach:

‘When I knew him, we didn’t really get to have these cool conversations about, “What was it like?” All this sort of stuff,’ she said.

She added that her upbringing was steeped in heavy music: ‘Me and my brother have always listened to Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, KISS, Guns N’ Roses. You name it, anyone, we’ve gone to see them live in concert.’

That foundation feeds directly into her character:

‘I think [it] completely shaped my wrestling persona because I just wanted to be me… times it by 10, and that’s what I think I am.’

Metal meets the main stage

WWE has always flirted with rock and metal, but Rain feels like a more direct extension of that world, not just a soundtrack, but someone carrying its attitude into the ring, now it’s about whether that energy translates when the lights hit and the crowd turns.
