The Used’s Bert McCracken Reflects On 25 Years And Preps For A Three Night Emotional Blitz Across Australia

Share

After 25 years at the helm of The Used, Bert McCracken isn’t coasting. He’s restless, reflective and still pushing to connect. With the band set to perform their first three records: The Used, In Love and Death, and Lies for the Liars, across three nights in every city on their upcoming Australian tour, there’s no room for autopilot.

This run isn’t a greatest hits set, it’s a deep dive into their early days. McCracken is carrying the weight of three emotionally intense albums every night, and he knows it’ll take a toll. That’s the point though, these shows are about revisiting the rawness, not polishing it up. Each night plays like a chapter in a long story of grief, love, betrayal, the works. The kind of setlists that scrape you out from the inside!

Bert McCracken Interview

Of the three records, In Love and Death continues to be the hardest to revisit. Its pain is still sharp. Lies for the Liars, meanwhile, often flies under the radar, but deserves far more recognition than it gets. The Used are embracing every flaw and flourish from that era, and it’s clear McCracken still has a personal attachment to each.

Australian Connection

The band’s connection to Australia runs deep, and while McCracken has long called the country home, the upcoming shows offer something different. There’s a personal pulse running through this tour, a sense of giving back to the fans who grew up screaming along to these songs.

In the time since The Taste of Ink, McCracken has evolved. Parenthood, last years solo venture and collaborations with emerging artists haven’t dimmed the fire, they’ve redirected it. He’s still writing, still reckoning, still willing to step into the thick of things. This tour isn’t about reliving the past. It’s about confronting it, owning it, and letting it loose one more time.
