Liam Gallagher has weighed in on the viral moment where Green Day kicked a fan off stage. In this case, for having the audacity to play Wonderwall.
The incident went down during Green Day’s show in Luxembourg on June 30. As per tradition, Billie Joe Armstrong invited a punter on stage to help close the night with Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). Instead, the fan grabbed the guitar and busted into the unmistakable strum of Wonderwall. Armstrong wasn’t having it.
“Oh, fuck me,” he muttered into the mic, before snatching the guitar back. “Nice try,” he added, while security gently ushered the lad off stage.
The clip instantly exploded across socials, and it didn’t take long for the Chief to chime in. Liam Gallagher, never one to miss a beat or a chance to back the banger that built him, quote-posted the video with a simple verdict: “Best song of the night.”
And look, fair call. Whether you love it, hate it, or hear it every time some bloke with an acoustic guitar touches a fretboard, Wonderwall remains one of the most recognisable songs in British music history. Even Billie Joe couldn’t kill its meme-level immortality.
Worth noting: back in 2011, Noel Gallagher said bands should be covering Oasis songs. “The Foo Fighters should definitely do a couple,” he said. “Green Day could do even more than one or two. Radiohead? I mean, let’s face it. It’d be a better night out.”
Oasis are about to kick off their mammoth Live ’25 reunion tour in Cardiff this Friday (July 4), with Liam fronting the whole thing. Meanwhile, Green Day are deep into their own European tour, having just headlined Download.
In other crossover news, Aldi have gone full Britpop fever dream, renaming one of their Manchester stores “Aldeh” and flogging bucket hats branded with “Aldimania”.
So, Billie Joe might’ve booted Wonderwall from the stage, but Liam’s clearly not losing sleep. If anything, he’s probably having the last laugh—from the dressing room at Cardiff.
