Hundreds of Oasis fans without tickets were filmed climbing new security fences at Manchester’s Heaton Park in an attempt to see the band’s reunion show in their hometown.
The latest footage shows crowds gathering outside the perimeter, with many scaling barriers, climbing trees or setting up chairs to watch the Oasis from a distance.
The additional security measures were introduced ahead of the five sold-out shows at Heaton Park, which mark the first time Liam and Noel Gallagher have performed in Manchester since reuniting. The nearby viewing spot, nicknamed “Gallagher Hill,” had become a popular area for those hoping to see the large screens from outside the venue. However, local authorities recently closed off the area to prevent overcrowding and protect both wildlife and newly planted trees.
Despite the closure, fans continued to gather around the fence line and attempted to gain a better view by any means necessary.
In footage circulated online from the July 16 show, crowds can be seen climbing trees and fences in scenes that resemble the scale and chaos of the band’s early years. Some brought garden furniture and camped out nearby, while others reportedly attempted to enter the venue with fake passes.
Greater Manchester Police later confirmed that six arrests were made for attempted breaches of security, including individuals caught using fake accreditation. Others tried to push through sections of fencing, though no serious incidents were reported.
In a statement ahead of the weekend shows, Councillor John Hacking said the changes were made to ensure public safety and reduce environmental damage to the park. He explained that the view of the stage had to be blocked to protect newly planted woodland and safeguard the cattle grazing in the area. Fans without tickets were encouraged to head into the city, where pubs and venues are hosting events to mark the occasion.
Some fans followed that advice, gathering at The Ostrich pub across the road to listen to the show. Others chose not to. In either case, the message was clear. For Oasis fans, a fence is not going to stop them. I mean, it’s the grand reunion after all.
