Gerard Way’s New Project The Mock-Ups Releases Debut Single

Share

The Mock-Ups, featuring Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and members of The Interrupters, have released their debut single just days after their existence was unveiled.

The Mock-Ups have dropped their first single, ‘I Wanna Know Your Name,’ just days after the new project featuring Gerard Way as vocalist and bassist was mysteriously announced seemingly out of nowhere.

Signed to Gauzy Records, who revealed the band on Friday via Instagram, The Mock-Ups features Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance (vocals/bass), Fender’s Michael Schulz (guitar), The Interrupters’ Kevin Bivona (keys/production), Jesse Bivona (drums) and Aimee Interrupter (backing vocals).

The new track has an almost nostalgic quality to it – and Gerard Way’s vocals are unmistakable, even if it’s not accompanied by an emo banger. Check out The Mock-Ups’ debut single below :

Engineering for ‘I Just Wanna Know Your Name’ is credited to Doug McKean – and based on the “RIP” in the vinyl pre-order listing, it would appear that the Doug McKean in question is the late audio engineer and producer who previously worked with My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Sum 41, Paramore, and more before his death in 2022. Based on this, it would appear The Mock-Ups have been in the works for at least a few years now.

McKean worked alongside Gerard Way on their Hesitant Alien solo debut, but most notably on My Chemical Romance’s Welcome to the Black Parade and 2010’s Danger Days.

Gauzy Records has already opened pre-orders for a limited edition vinyl of The Mock-Ups debut single. According to the pre-order listing, the genre is described as “Punk Rock, Rock & Roll, ‘77.”

It’s not clear whether we’ll be getting more from The Mock-Ups in the near future, or if this is an isolated track. Either way, Gerard Way is continuing to keep very busy between My Chemical Romance’s world tour, a million other creative side quests, and now another band.
