Poppy, Amy Lee and Courtney LaPlante’s ‘End of You’ has broken a new record on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay charts, becoming the first track by three women or women-led acts to hit number one in the list’s 45-year history.
Poppy, Amy Lee and Courtney LaPlante continue to break down walls in metal, as the trio have just made chart history.
This week, the metal singers’ track ‘End of You‘ would claim the top spot on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart, marking the first time that three women or women-led acts have claimed the top spot in the list’s 45-year history.
What makes this all the more impressive is that solo women acts have historically struggled to reach the top spot. Nina Struss was the last to claim the spot in 2021 with her collab track ‘Dead Inside’ with Disturbed’s David Draiman. Before that, no solo woman act would land at the number one spot in over 30 years, with the last being Alannah Myles track ‘Black Velvet’ in 1990.
Not only does ‘End of You’ mark Poppy’s and Courtney LaPlante’s first number one on the chart, but it also marks Amy Lee’s first time as a solo act. Previously, Lee would claim the number one spot last year with Evanescence’s track ‘Afterlife‘.
It’s a neat bow on what has been a homerun for all artists involved. While the track is intended to remain a standalone project, the trio has performed it live on tour. Evanescence has also announced an upcoming tour with Poppy and Spiritbox later this year, kicking things off in June at West Palm Beach, Florida’s iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre.
Last month, Poppy continued her streak of releasing new music with the release of her seventh solo album, Empty Hands, which has received widespread critical acclaim.
Courtney LaPlante would join her band Spiritbox at the Grammys, delivering a blistering performance of their track ‘Soft Spine,’ which was nominated for “Best Metal Performance” on the night. While Turnstile would take home the big award, there’s no denying that Spiritbox blew the roof off the venue and showed what metal is capable of.
