Jack White appeared on Saturday Night Live this week as the show’s music guest, along with host Jack Black, performing ‘Derecho Demonico’ and ‘G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs’.
Legendary guitarist Jack White wrapped his sixth time performing as a music guest on Saturday Night Live last night, performing two new tracks he debuted the night before.
Joining the episode along with actor Jack Black, White would perform the tracks ‘Derecho Demonico’ and ‘G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs’, which he released on Friday as a teaser for his upcoming performance.
Both tracks are steeped in religious imagery, drawing from their biblical themes to imagine a post-apocalyptic Garden of Eden. Which is pretty edgy for SNL, you have to admit.
White would also join Black in the episode’s opening monologue, riffing on the show’s recurring Five-Timers Club – a special club reserved for guests who have hosted the show five times. The sketch would feature fellow members Tina Fey, Candice Bergen and Melissa McCarthy.
Shortly after entering the scene, White and Black would enter a reworked rendition of the White Stripes track ‘Seven Nation Army,’ with altered lyrics referencing the Five-Timers Club, yet retaining its legendary guitar riff.
White’s last appearance on SNL came in 2023, where the frontman performed two tracks from his 2022 albums Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive. White’s would previously appear as a musical guest in 2020, 2018, 2012 and once with the White Stripes in 2002. In 2020, White would play a guitar designed for him by Eddie Van Halen, who had passed away earlier in the week leading up to his performance.
As of writing, it’s unclear if White’s new tracks are teasing yet another new album from the iconic singer and guitarist, but given his immense output in recent years, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him drop another album later in the year.
