Slipknot Begin Tracking New Album With Eloy Casagrande

Slipknot have moved into the tracking phase for their next studio album, marking the first full-length the band will record with drummer Eloy Casagrande.

Guitarist Jim Root has shared recent studio updates indicating that recording is now underway on the follow-up to 2022’s The End, So Far (per Lamb Goat).

The development follows July report that Slipknot had amassed roughly 50 song arrangements while working with producer Matt Wallace, whose credits include Faith No More and Mushroomhead.

At the time, Root described a highly organic writing process built around extended jam sessions rather than conventional demo construction. Those sessions involved Casagrande, Root and other members developing ideas in real time before arrangements were shaped further.

A new era

The new record will be Slipknot’s first full length with Casagrande, who joined the band in 2024 following the departure of Jay Weinberg.

It will also be the band’s first proper studio album without longtime turntablist Sid Wilson, whose departure was confirmed in August after weeks of uncertainty.

Wilson had been part of Slipknot since 1998 and appeared on every studio album from the band’s 1999 self-titled debut through The End, So Far, his exit leaves another significant change in the line-up heading into the new record.

There is also a broader shift around how the album will ultimately be released.

The End, So Far completed Slipknot’s long-running contract with Roadrunner Records, meaning the upcoming album will be their first outside that deal. No new label arrangement or release plan has been announced.

For now, the most concrete update is that the project has moved beyond writing and arranging into active tracking.

With around 50 ideas previously in circulation and Matt Wallace involved in the sessions, there is still no indication of how much material will make the final record, when it will arrive, or what shape the finished tracklist will take.

What is clear is that Slipknot’s next album is now firmly in motion, and it will be the first studio document of a markedly different era for the band.
