Northlane Take Aim At ‘Collapse Of Civil Discourse’ On New Single ‘Crucified’

Northlane have unleashed ‘Crucified’, the latest preview of their seventh studio album Anemoia, ahead of its arrival next month.

The Australian heavyweights aren’t pulling their punches on the new track, which follows previous Anemoia singles ‘Evian’ and ‘CUT_it’.

Built around some of the record’s heaviest riffs so far, ‘Crucified’ takes aim at the increasingly hostile nature of disagreement, both online and beyond. Frontman Marcus Bridge says the track was inspired by what he sees as a wider breakdown in people’s ability to communicate with one another.

“‘Crucified’ is about the collapse of civil discourse – the way every disagreement now defaults to attack, every conversation becomes a battleground, every difference of opinion ends with someone playing the victim,” Bridge explains.

“Not only touching on politics, it’s about the regression of communication as a whole: arguments online, wars, general difference of opinion. If you’re offside, misaligned / we won’t rest tonight / till you’re fucking crucified. The instinct to go for the throat rather than hear someone out has seeped into every corner of life.”

Anemoia

‘Crucified’ is the third track released from Anemoia, which arrives October 30th via Independent / Immortal Music Group.

Executive produced by Jordan Fish, the album finds Northlane pushing further into the electronic side of their sound, with guitarist Jon Deiley’s writing partly inspired by seeing UK producer Evian Christ perform. Trance, drum and bass and jungle are among the electronic influences colliding with the band’s established metalcore foundations across the record.

Northlane will also celebrate the album’s arrival with a release party at New Guernica in Collingwood on October 30th, featuring an album listening session, a DJ set from Deiley, meet and greets and exclusive merchandise.

The band then hit the road in November for their biggest Australian headline tour to date, joined by After The Burial, Cenobia and Above, Below.
