Mick Jagger Says The Rolling Stones Aren’t Done Yet As New Music And 2027 Tour Plans Take Shape

Share

Rolling Stones fans have plenty to look forward to, with Mick Jagger revealing the legendary band is already thinking beyond the release of its upcoming album Foreign Tongues.

The Rolling Stones 25th studio record arrives this Friday, July 10th and features an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood and Robert Smith, but according to Jagger, new music may not stop there.

Speaking with NME, the frontman confirmed he’s already writing fresh material, suggesting another Rolling Stones album could eventually follow.

“Yeah, it could be a trio [of albums],” Jagger said.

“I’ve already started writing songs anyway. They could be for other people, though.

“I’m very open-minded to it. I’ve got a lot of stuff, and not all of it’s suitable for the Rolling Stones. It shouldn’t stop me writing them, you know – if you get an idea, just write it.”

No 2026 tour plans as yet

While fans hoping to catch the band live this year may be disappointed, Jagger also made it clear the Stones’ touring days aren’t over.

Reflecting on the band’s memorable Glastonbury performance in 2013, he admitted the festival presents unique challenges.

“It’s a difficult gig to do,” he explained. “The stage is very odd. It’s so disjointed and you’re so far away from everyone. We normally have a 50-feet walkway, and we only had 10.

“I mean, it’s great when you look up the hill and you see everyone; it’s fantastic. There’s no doubt about it. Do I wanna do it again? Oh, I’ll say yes.”

Asked directly whether the Rolling Stones had finished touring, Jagger responded: “Hopefully not. I don’t think there’ll be shows this year, but I hope to do some next year for the Stones.”

He also explained why no concerts have been scheduled for 2026:

“Keith couldn’t commit, and he wasn’t feeling so great about touring and everything. Which leads you on to the question of residencies.”

Jagger clarified he wasn’t referring to a traditional Las Vegas residency, instead pointing to artists such as Harry Styles performing multiple shows in one city before moving elsewhere.

The upcoming Foreign Tongues also reunites the Stones with longtime friend Paul McCartney, who contributed bass to the track Covered In You. Jagger praised the recording session, saying McCartney immediately understood exactly what the song required and delivered the performance in just minutes.
