Something creepy this way comes in the Until Dawn trailer

Share

The classic (apparently) PlayStation survival horror game comes to (hopefully) nerve-shredding life thanks to Lights Out director David F. Sandberg.

Apparently the fanbase for Until Dawn, a 2015 stalk ‘n’ slash survival horror game for the PS4/5, is more fervent than I thought, because it’s now a movie. A movie being very quietly released, mind you. Directed by David F. Sandberg, beating a tactical retreat to the foothills of horror after taking a drubbing on the open field of battle that was Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Until Dawn slips into Australian cinemas on April 24. Let’s roll the trailer.

Written by Gary Dauberman and Blair Butler and, crucially, set in the same universe as the game but not retelling its story, Until Dawn seems fairly standard issue.

As the press synopsis helpfully tells us, “One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. They find themselves horrifically murdered, only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning. Trapped in an endless time loop, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again – only each time, the killer is different, each more terrifying than the last, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”

Ella Rubin (Anora) takes the lead as Clover, with Michael Cimino (not that one) as Max; Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser) as Nina; Ji-young Yoo (Freaky Tales) as Megan; Belmont Cameli (Saved by the Bell) as Abel;
Maia Mitchell as Melanie; and genre mainstay Peter Stormare as Hill, a role he previously played in the game.

I swear, it’s like an entire fandom passed me by. And I’ve even heard of RWBY.

Well, I guess if you’ve been hanging out for an Until Dawn movie, this is the one you’ve got.
