Ariana Grande’s In The Hot Seat In The Focker-In-Law Trailer

Share

Focker-In-Law adds a new generation to the long-running family comedy franchise.

Meet The Parents – now there’s a franchise that keeps going and going, even as the received wisdom is that comedy is now pure death at the box office (look at how The Naked Gun with Liam Neeson tanked). But somebody, somewhere, thinks this fourth film, Focker-In-Law in the venerable series is worth ponying up for – and with this cast, you can be pretty sure it wasn’t cheap.

What’s the plot?

16 years on from Little Fockers, Greg and Pam’s kids Henry and Samantha are all grown up, and Henry is dating an Ariana Grande-shaped former FBI hostage negotiator named Olivia, which sits well with his hard-nosed grandad – and the bane of Greg’s life – Jack. Olivia set out to free Henry from Greg’s smothering influence, Jack thinks its hilarious, Greg gets humiliated repeatedly, and a good time is had by all. I assume.

Who’s in it?

  • Robert De Niro as Jack Byrnes, an overprotective retired CIA agent, Vietnam War veteran, and father-in-law from hell.
  • Ben Stiller as Gaylord “Greg” Focker: nice guy, nurse, loser.
  • Ariana Grande as Olivia Jones, a former FBI hostage negotiator a girlfriend to Greg’s kid, Henry.
  • Owen Wilson as Kevin Rawley, Pam’s annoyingly perfect ex-fiancé.
  • Blythe Danner as Dina Byrnes, Jack’s wife.
  • Teri Polo as Pam Byrnes Focker, Greg’s wife.
  • Skyler Gisondo as Henry Focker, Greg and Pam’s son.
  • Beanie Feldstein as Samantha Focker, Greg and Pam’s daughter.
  • Eduardo Franco is just kinda hanging out, which suits him.

When’s it out?

Focker-In-Law hits Australian cinemas on November 26.

What’s the vibe?

Ben Stiller’s fearless approach to comedic self-flagellation is always welcome, Ariana Grande seems game (people forget she can be very funny) and Robert De Niro can do this bit in his sleep – the only worry is that he might. If you liked the first three, you’ll dig this.
