Spiritbox singer Courtney LaPlante has teased a potential League of Legends collab on her Instagram, sharing a video of a character from the upcoming game 2KXO alongside what sounds like a new song.
Spiritbox‘s Courtney LaPlante is not slowing down. Earlier today, the singer shared a teaser of what appears to be an upcoming collaboration with Riot Games’ forthcoming League of Legends fighting game 2KXO.
The video features a distorted snippet of what sounds like a new song. In the accompanying video, a figure closely resembling the League of Legends character Ahri can be seen. LaPlante would also write in the caption, “Our two hearts beat”, which could be a reference to Ahri and her ability to charm people (and throw love hearts that deal big damage).
To add fuel to the speculation, the official 2KXO instagram account replied in the comments with the ever-intense glaring eyes emoji.
For those out of the loop, 2KXO is an upcoming 2v2 fighting game from Riot Games featuring characters from League of Legends. The game features some of League‘s most iconic characters, including Jinx, Vi, Ahri, Yasuo and more. The game held a private beta earlier this month, allowing players to try the game ahead of its release. Riot has announced that they’ll be holding a public beta on October 7th, allowing all players to try out the game and provide feedback.
Riot is also known to collaborate with prominent artists for promotional purposes related to their games. In 2014, the gaming company enlisted Imagine Dragons to write the song Warriors for their World Finals event. The company have also worked with Lil Nas X, Porter Robinson, Twenty One Pilots, and more.
LaPlante’s involvement also makes sense as the team at Riot are big metal nerds. Earlier this month, Polyphia would drop the theme song ‘Let’s Go’ for the upcoming game, showing off the bands high-energy style to match the game’s fast-paced action. But it isn’t the company’s first foray into metal.
In 2014, the company released the heavy metal album SMITE AND IGNITE from their virtual band PENTAKILL, which featured metal-inspired versions of characters from the game. The virtual band would hire Norwegian hard rock legend Jørn Lande as the frontman for the group, layering his epic vocals for the band.
While no release date for LaPlante’s single has been announced, given the October 7 public beta date, it’s fair to assume we’ll hear more by then.
